The 2022-23 Postdoc Symposium

SURPAS would like to invite you to “The Stanford University Postdoc Association (SURPAS) Annual Symposium 2023“Post-Pandemic – Building Back Better: The Resiliency of Stanford Postdocs”. Please sign up to present either an oral or poster presentation at the Annual Stanford Postdoc Symposium scheduled for February 8th, 2023, at the Clark Center Auditorium and Courtyard from 9 am to 5 pm with a networking event beginning at 5:30 pm at the LKSC Herb Garden. This is a wonderful speaking opportunity to present your research to the Stanford community.

The deadline to submit your abstract is January 5th. Register here.

This one-day event features a keynote address by President Marc Tessier-Lavigne and Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, Stacey Bent. We will also have Nobel Prize Laureate Professor Steven Chu speaking at the event.

Matt Abrahams
Matt Abrahams: Lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Principal and Co-Founder – Bold Echo Communications Solutions

Keynote: Building Your Professional Brand and Online Presence

Matt Abrahams is a passionate, collaborative and innovative educator and coach. He has published research articles on cognitive planning, persuasion, and interpersonal communication.

Matt recently published the third edition of his book Speaking Up Without Freaking Out, a book written to help the millions of people who suffer from anxiety around speaking in public. Additionally, Matt developed a software package that provides instant, proscriptive feedback to presenters. Prior to teaching, Matt held senior leadership positions in several leading software companies, where he created and ran global training and development organizations.

Matt is also Co-Founder and Principal at Bold Echo Communications Solutions, a presentation and communication skills company based in Silicon Valley that helps people improve their presentation skills. Matt has worked with executives to help prepare and present keynote addresses and IPO road shows, conduct media interviews, and deliver TED talks.

Rosan Gomperts, L.C.S.W.: Director of Stanford University’s Faculty Staff Help Center

Workshop: Developing Habits for Stress Management

Rosan Gomperts, LCSW has been the Director of the Faculty Staff Help Center at Stanford University since 2004.  She is a trained Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher and a certified mediator.

The Faculty Staff Help Center is staffed by licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and experienced interns. They are a diverse group from the standpoint of age, sex, ethnicity, foreign-language ability and special skills.

Keynote Day 2: Leadership and Project Management

Anne Krook, Ph.D. is a consultant who creates strategies and tactics to help groups of employees work together in the most productive workplace environments.  Through her work, she has helped companies and organizations integrate younger women into the workplace, preparing them for success, and coaching them on interacting with colleagues.

Anne is a former academic who transitioned successfully to the corporate and nonprofit workplaces. Through her work she has helped graduate students and postdocs transition to non-academic workplaces and help undergraduate humanities majors translate their skills into jobs.
