Diversity Perspectives Seminar Series: Call For Nominations!
September 25, 2018
tl;dr We invite YOU to nominate a local scientist or engineer to speak about navigating careers in science as minoritized or marginalized trainees and have informal meetings with trainees. Please fill out this form if you are interested in helping organize or in submitting a nomination. Nominations will be open until September 31 and online voting will occur during the week of October 1.
Hi Postdocs!
Do you enjoy hearing advice and stories from successful researchers who have navigated the pathway to career success? Are you passionate about equity and working towards making Stanford a more inclusive and welcoming campus?
If so, then we invite you to nominate and host a speaker for our inaugural Diversity Perspective Seminar Series! This event will bring a trainee-nominated, trainee-hosted speaker to campus to present a broad audience seminar and participate in small group meetings and scientific discussion.
Our vision is to host a prominent scientist or engineer who has significantly contributed to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the academic community. We strongly encourage you to nominate a speaker who can directly speak to experiences of students from minoritized or underrepresented backgrounds. The only restriction is that our inaugural event is limited to speaker nominations from the broader Bay Area (including UC Santa Cruz).
Nominations will be open until September 31 and online voting will occur during the week of October 1. You will be invited to be a primary host if your nominee is selected, so this could be a great chance to meet a prominent scientist in your field. Feel free to get in touch with any questions, and we look forward to hearing your nominations, ideas, and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Diversity Perspectives Seminar Series Committee (SURPAS + BioAIMS), funded by a DIF grant from Stanford VPGE.
