“Finding your path with limited resources” Laura Crowley, Ph.D. – “How did we get here?” Seminar Series
Have you ever wondered about all the wild, wonderful, and diverse paths that we all have taken to be here as postdocs at Stanford?
In the “How did we get here?” Seminar Series, we will listen, reflect, and discuss stories that showcase the diverse pathways that we have all taken to become postdocs at Stanford. We are especially interested in the stories that don’t often get told. This is a fantastic way to share your learnings, empower others, and connect with fellow postdocs!

This month, we’re hearing from: Laura Crowley
“Finding your path with limited resources.” I grew up in a very rural area, unaware of what research or a PhD was. My family had limited financial resources, and in college, I temporarily lived out of my car. After a lot of effort, planning, and luck, I saved up enough money to take an undergraduate genetics class that exposed me to research. This helped me find my passion and rerouted my future through a mixture of different genetics and stem cell biology research environments. In this talk, I will discuss my background, my journey to finding science, and the research and mentoring experiences I encountered along the way to becoming a postdoc at Stanford.
