How did we get here?” Seminar Series – Cellas Hayes: Empowering yourself through opportunities and futuristic goals

Have you ever wondered about all the wild, wonderful, and diverse paths that we all have taken to be here as postdocs at Stanford?
In the “How did we get here?” Seminar Series, we will listen, reflect, and discuss stories that showcase the diverse pathways that we have all taken to become postdocs at Stanford. We are especially interested in the stories that don’t often get told. This is a fantastic way to share your learnings, empower others, and connect with fellow postdocs!

This month, we’re hearing from: Cellas Hayes
“Empowering yourself through opportunities and futuristic goals”. Cellas is a first-gen college graduate from rural Mississippi. Coming from a low socioeconomic status and encountering systemic barriers to academia, Cellas wandered his way into a research laboratory through work-study and found his passion for science and mentoring. From having diverse mentors, leveraging unique training plans, and having a futuristic mindset, Cellas has superseded the boundaries placed on him from his identify. Cellas will be sharing how he is transitioning into a neuroepidemiologist and how he leveraged himself to build a strong foundation for others to support unconventional ways of pursuing science opportunities.
